Advanced Coach Needed
JOB DESCRIPTION AND POSITION REQUIREMENTS:
The Skating Club of the Adirondacks (SCA) is seeking part-time figure skating instructors. Qualified candidates will report to the SCA Board. The candidate will be responsible for assisting in all areas of figure skating programs and other events for The Skating Club of the Adirondacks, including but not limited to:
- Instructing youth and adult skating programs, teaching various in-house clinics and programs both on and off the ice
- Providing private lesson instruction (advanced skaters)
- Assisting with the annual in-house ice show and in-house skating competitions and skating camps
- Assisting in setup and break down for programs or other events
The candidate should have knowledge of figure skating equipment and the ability to size and fit properly and will be required to administer excellent customer service to all skaters and guests. Must be able to lift 50 lbs. or less with or without accommodation. Must complete coach/instructor compliances/training in accordance with USFS mandates and be Learn to Skate USA certified.
PAYMENT AND COMPENSATION
- Pay rate is determined by the club’s pay rate scale (see attached scale)
- LTS lesson time on and off time must to accounted for through the provided time sheet
- Maximum number of hours per session/skating year:
GENERAL DESCRIPTION
- Provide general ice-skating instruction for Learn to Skate classes and other specialty skating classes
- Teach, support, and reinforce ice etiquette and behaviors that align with the code of conduct
- Supervise and mentor junior coaches (volunteer skaters helping with LTS classes)
- Mentor, assist in hiring, provide feedback and termination as necessary, for Learn to Skate coaches in collaboration with the Rink Manager
- Working in collaboration with the board to ensure all paperwork is completed and up-to-date including applications, Learn to Skate coach registration, USFS background checks and SafeSport compliancy
- Oversee the training of the junior coaches
- Train all new on-ice staff with respect to on-ice program delivery and curriculum
- Assist in organizing training sessions for coaches
- Work towards increasing registrations for all ice-skating classes and programs
- Serve as an ambassador for Learn to Skate classes and ice-skating programs
- Ensure a successful skating program which results in engaged skaters and program growth
- Keep up-to-date with figure skating industry trends
- Ensure a safe and healthy environment for all skaters
- Assist in tasks as needed
QUALIFICATIONS REQUIRED
- Member of US Figure Skating Association
- Member of the Professional Skaters Association
- Hold coaches’ liability insurance with $1,000,000
- Demonstrate continuing education
- Yearly background check
- Credentials up-to-date
- Strong sense of teamwork, prioritization and self-motivation
- At least five (5) years of responsible teaching experience at all skating levels
- Enthusiastic, friendly, courteous
- Must have good oral and written communication skills
- Must have the ability to work nights and weekends
QUALIFICATIONS PREFERRED
- Ability to choreograph and direct ice-skating shows and competition throughout the year including individual, small group and large group numbers
