Learn to Skate USA Lesson Schedule 

General Information 

The Skating Club of the Adirondacks (SCA) is pleased to announce its Fall 2023 lesson schedule. Lessons will be held at the SUNY Plattsburgh Field House.  If you have any questions or are not receiving our emails, please email us at skatingcluboftheadirondacks@gmail.com. 

Components of the Learn to Skate USA Program 

Our Learn to Skate USA program is instructed by USFSA certified head coaches and advanced skaters/junior coaches. It consists  of four beginner levels, six basic skills levels, and the pre-free skate level. Adult lessons are also offered. Skaters progress at their  own rate and advance to the next level after skill mastery is demonstrated.  

Snowplow Sam 1-4 – Designed to help the beginning skater develop preliminary coordination and strength to maneuver on the ice.  Lessons are 45 minutes in length, with 30 minutes of direct instruction and 15 minutes of open skate. 

Basic Skills 1-3 – Lessons focus on the development of agility, balance, coordination, speed and self-confidence. Lessons are 45  minutes in length, with 30 minutes of direct instruction and 15 minutes of open skate. 

Basic Skills 4-6 – Skaters continue to work on fundamental skills and are introduced to edge techniques, crossovers, and turns.  Lessons are 60 minutes in length, with 30 minutes of direct instruction, 15 minutes of power stroking, and 15 minutes of open skating. 

Pre-Free Skate – Lessons focus on a variety of progressive skating skills, transitions, spins and jumps designed to give skaters a  strong foundation. Lessons are 60 minutes in length, with 30 minutes of direct instruction, 15 minutes of power stroking, and 15  minutes of open skating. 

Adult Lessons – Lessons are tailored to the unique needs of each adult skater. Lessons are 60 minutes in length, with 30 minutes  of direct instruction, 15 minutes of power stroking, and 15 minutes of open skating.

Saturdays

Sept 23th – Jan 28th

Snow Plow Sam-Basic 8:45-9:30

Basic 4-Free-Style: 8:30-9:30

Sundays

Sept 24th – Jan 28th

Snow Plow Sam-Basic 3:15-4:00

Basic 4-Free-Style: 3:00-4:00

This is the start of the USFA skating year.  Membership Dues for USFA and the club will be due at time of payment.  Dues are good through June 2024

 

Ice times are subject to change; you’ll be notified via email if this is necessary. Club Dues, Ice Fees, USFSA Dues, and other amount deposited will not be refunded except under extenuating circumstances. Written applications for refunds must be made to  the SCA Board of Directors.
